Hello! My name is Evelyn Jensen Ortiz and I am the eighth grade homeroom and English/Language Arts teacher for Grades 6-8 in the Middle School. My journey in education has given me opportunities to work in different capacities as an educator – teacher, principal, vice-principal, college instructor and religious education director. I have been at St. Andrew Catholic School since 2002 and have served in the field of education for over 40 years both in public and Catholic school.

As an educator, I believe that I give my students the tools to build their “home.” I may never see the finished building but I know they have the tools to make a difference for good in this world. My belief is that every student is special and uniquely talented. Each one brings the gift of him or herself each day and together we build a learning community. I learn more from my students and parents about life than what I can ever give.

With parents and the parish community, I am a builder of bridges so that we can journey as a community between family, school, and parish. There is a partnership formed with the student, parent, and teacher with the student being at the center of the education environment.

I am a native of New York and am blessed with an amazing husband and son. In my spare time I enjoy traveling, hiking, and calligraphy.

I look forward to meeting and working with you in the Middle School and as eighth grade homeroom teacher.
