Welcome to Mrs. Salazar's Page!

I am a retired teacher and have enjoyed over 35 years in education. My teaching career began in 1979 and has taken me through several positions in education. I taught bilingual Kindergarten, first and second grades at El Sereno Elementary School. I began the School Readiness Language Development Program, the LAUSD version of TK, at the same school where I was also teacher. The Preschool Special Education department began an afterschool program in which I participated.  Shortly after, I was asked to join their department.

My role in preschool special education served as part of an assessment team that determined if students qualified for special education services. I worked with families of children ages 2-4 in Regional Center and Head Start programs. I then decided to return to school and began the Master Program in Early Childhood Special Education at Cal State University, Los Angeles. With only one class and practicum to complete I was struck with breast cancer and had to leave the program. Upon doctors’ orders I formally retired from teaching after 3 years of battling the disease.

With time on my hands, it was very easy for me to explore the gifts God gave me. I found myself scrap booking, crocheting, learning needlepoint and making jam. I continue with these crafts even today. I enjoy using my hands to help me create. I also began to volunteer in the Pastoral Care Ministry here at St. Andrew Parish. I was planning to only volunteer at the school when I was offered a part time position in TK and have been here for six years.

My role in the Catholic faith has always played an important part in my life and that of my family. I attended All Saints Elementary School in Los Angeles, Alverno High School in Sierra Madre and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education from Mount St. Mary’s University in Los Angeles. Both of my children attended Catholic elementary and high schools and continued their education at Catholic universities. My husband, children and I continue to serve the Church in various ministries.
