International Baccalaureate Candidacy- Primary Years Programme

St. Andrew Catholic School is introducing the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP) into the school curriculum.  IB schools exist across the globe.  Like St. Andrew, IB schools are places for knowledgeable students who care about the world in which they live and who want to learn more about their neighbors, both far and wide.

This process of candidacy and authorization is administered by the PYP Coordinator, Mr. Estevan Gonzalez. In addition to collecting, preparing and maintaining the records for our application, Mr. Gonzalez is responsible for reporting the changes in the calendar and the school's learning goals to our faculty, staff, and parents.

While our overall goals will not change much, you will notice some changes in the ways teachers teach, plan, and learn.  The PYP Coordinator will make sure that teachers and other staff have access to new training and that they will have time to plan their teaching together.  He will also make sure that students have opportunities to proudly show you what they have learned.

Many of the preliminary steps are already in place.  St. Andrew Catholic School is already a school where:

  • Teachers plan collaboratively and include specialists from across the school community
  • Students learn in the language of the community and in another world language,
  • Students explore concepts across the curriculum,
  • Physical Education and the Arts are a fundamental part of our whole child approach,
  • International-mindedness and Christian service are integral to the mission.

Through it all, we will continue to prepare students in living and witnessing Gospel values and committed to being inquisitive life-long learners.

St. Andrew Catholic School is a candidate school* for the Primary Years Programme. This school is pursuing authorization as an IB World School.

These are schools that share a common philosophy—a commitment to high quality, challenging, international education we believe is important for our students.

The aim of all IB programmes is to develop internationally minded people who, recognizing their common humanity and shared guardianship of the planet help to create a better and more peaceful world.

*Only schools authorized by the IB Organization can offer any of its three academic programmes: the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP), or the Diploma Programme (and in addition the IB Career-related Programme). Candidate status gives no guarantee that authorization will be granted.
