Fine Arts

Participation in and exposure to the Arts help children to develop very important social concepts and life skills including self-worth, team work, problem solving, and confidence.  Our Arts Program integrates visual arts, dance, music, and drama education into a wide range of academic and extra-curricular activities as an integral part of our curriculum.

Music

Singing, music appreciation, concerts and the visual arts, drama, and dance are integrated into the curriculum through our relationship with the Armory Center for the Arts, Southwest Chamber Music, other professionals, and community resources as well as classroom teachers.

Weekly music class and instruction for all students includes preparation for Mass, as well as singing. Students in grades 3-8 learn musical theory by playing the recorder. Attendance at concerts, visiting the Disney Hall and the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, going to plays at a variety of theaters, visiting the gallery at the Armory Center for the Arts and making art in their workshop, give the students wide experiences in the fine arts.

Art Education

Students in TK - 8th grade have a weekly art class that allows them to explore different types of media for visual art expression.  Student work can be found displayed throughout the school.

Community Culture - Walking Field Trips

Because of our unique central location in Old Pasadena, our students are able to explore and learn in many of Pasadena’s historic, cultural, civic, and artistic venues unique to our city as part of the learning process.

Walking field trips include visits to the Pasadena Civic Auditorium and Pasadena Playhouse for performances, concerts and plays; local museums and art galleries, such as the Armory Center for the Arts and the Norton Simon Museum; the Pasadena Central Public Library, City Hall, City Police and Fire Departments, and city parks.
